Seoul’s spy service reported that North Korean hackers had created a phony Naver-like website in a more sophisticated attempt to target South Korean users.
This week, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) warned against using the “Naver Portal” website and stated it was working with foreign organizations to find the gang behind it.
“North Korea’s hacking attacks targeting South Koreans are getting more elaborate,” the spy agency stated Wednesday.
The software behemoth Naver (035420. KS) operates South Korea’s most popular web portal and search engine, including email, news aggregation, and online commerce.
The NIS does not indicate how many people were misled by the portal or supplied personal information.
On Thursday, a Naver official remarked, “We urge users to pay attention to the domain address when accessing Naver.”
Pyongyang has denied wrongdoing, although its hackers have been implicated in millions of dollars in cyberattacks.
The UN said that North Korea stole the most Bitcoin assets in 2022. International observers claim North Korea’s sanctioned nuclear and missile programs have received stolen funds.
Last month, the NIS reported that “social engineering” emails from North Korea account for almost 70% of hacking attempts.
