Nvidia has expanded its reach in China’s EV sector. Four Chinese electric car makers will utilize Nvidia’s technology to power autonomous driving systems, demonstrating the chip maker’s ambition to expand in China despite Washington’s stricter export controls.

At the CES technology convention in Las Vegas on Monday, Nvidia said that Chinese manufacturers Li Auto (2015. HK), Great Wall Motor (601633. SS), Zeekr (ZK.N), and Xiaomi’s new EV business (1810. HK) will utilize its DRIVE technology to support automatic driving.

Why It Matters

Automotive technology company Nvidia targets China’s burgeoning EV brands. Chinese manufacturers are competing to introduce better infotainment and autonomous driving systems. This gives Nvidia, Intel, Qualcomm, and other semiconductor companies huge potential.

Nvidia and its U.S. rivals must fulfill Chinese clients’ need for powerful chips while complying with stricter U.S. regulations on advanced semiconductor exports to China.

Powering Online Car Shopping

Nvidia said at CES that it is developing improved online shopping capabilities alongside WPP, Lotus, and six other firms. According to Danny Shapiro, Nvidia’s automotive vice president, automakers and dealers plan to construct online purchasing sites with three-dimensional and lifelike visuals using Nvidia technology.
