Uber is expanding Comfort Electric’s premium electric car service to 14 additional U.S. and Canadian locations. As a result, 40 North American markets now offer spectacular, eco-friendly rides.

Uber stated its agreement with Hertz to rent Teslas to drivers in over 30 U.S. and Canadian markets has accelerated U.S. EV adoption. The business says approximately 50,000 drivers had hired Teslas and made over 24 million electric rides.
In January, Uber and Hertz launched in Europe, offering up to 25,000 Tesla and Polestar vehicles to drivers by 2025 in London, Paris, and Amsterdam.

In Q3 2022, Uber had 38,000 monthly active EV drivers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, quadrupling the number in a year (Europe likely makes up a larger portion of drivers with EVs). The firm is still working toward 100% zero-emission rides. Uber drivers must buy EVs on their own, which complicates that purpose.
The Inflation Reduction Act offers up to $7,500 in discounts for EVs, but most, especially premium EVs, are still pricey. According to Kelley Blue Book, EVs averaged $61,488 in 2022, compared to $49,507 for all passenger cars and trucks.
After Uber this week disclosed CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s total compensation rose 22% last year to $24.3 million—$1 million base salary, $14 million in stock awards, $6 million in option awards, a $2.9 million bonus, and $170,000 in other compensation for personal travel and security—some drivers who buy higher-end vehicles are feeling the sting of high upfront cost and low earnings.
Uber invested $800 million to assist drivers in transition by 2025. Drivers said $1 every EV journey (capped at $4,000) makes a big impact, especially when they buy cheaper EVs and save on petrol. The firm and Truecar offer drivers up to $2,000 in bonuses. In addition, Hertz, Avis, Ford, Drive Sally, Hive, Zevvy, and HyreCar provide cheap EV rentals in several areas.
Uber also offers $100 off Wallbox chargers and $100 off installation for EVgo drivers. In addition, the driving app now displays nearby EV charges.
