According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Bytedance, TikTok’s Chinese parent, has postponed the US launch of its commerce site.

Many in Congress want to prohibit the app because of concern that Chinese authorities may access US user data.

The article suggested vendors may not join the e-commerce platform due to fears over the short-form video platform’s viability.

TikTok reported 150 million US monthly active users in March, up from 100 million in 2020. Reuters requested comment but received no response.

Last week, the video platform announced a solution allowing marketers to run advertisements alongside premium publisher content and share half the ad income.
