The German newspaper Handelsblatt claimed on Friday that Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) intends to produce its Trinity electric cars (EV) at its facility in Zwickau, citing several business sources.
At the Friday Volkswagen Supervisory Board meeting, the luxury EV site will be decided upon, according to Handelsblatt.
An official from the German automaker declined to respond to the story.
It was planned for the Trinity electric vehicle, which will be built on the new SSP platform, to go on sale in 2026.
To ease pressure on the faltering software business Cariad, Chief Executive Oliver Blume delayed the project two years after assuming office.
Volkswagen was originally going to construct a new plant for the vehicle. Still, because the brand’s development took longer than expected, the German automaker was also considering transforming its Wolfsburg facility.
