Truecaller (TRUEb.ST) told Reporters on Monday that its caller identification service will soon be available on WhatsApp and other messaging programs to help users recognize fraudulent calls.
CEO Alan Mamedi has announced that all of Truecaller’s beta features will go live in May. According to Truecaller data from 2021, the average number of spam calls received by Indian clients was 17.
In February, India’s telecom regulator mandated both Jio and Airtel implement artificial intelligence (AI) filters to block telemarketing calls. Truecaller is in talks with telecom providers to implement this kind of service.
“Over the last two weeks, we have seen a spike in user reports from India about spam calls over WhatsApp,” Mamedi said. “This is a first for the industry: telemarketers using internet calling.”
WhatsApp is the app of choice in India. The corporation’s spam detection tools allow users to block and report suspicious accounts.
Two hundred fifty million people in India use Truecaller. In addition, more than 350 million visitors from all around the world visit every month thanks to advertising, paid memberships, and verified business listings.
