YouTube is experimenting with asking viewers to turn off ad blockers after three videos or buy a premium subscription.
As initially reported by Bleeping Computer, Reddit users provided pictures of the streaming service informing desktop ad-blocking users.
The notification states, “Video player will be blocked after 3 videos.” “It looks like you maybe using an ad blocker,” reads the warning below. YouTube must be allowed listed, or the ad blocker must be turned off to play videos.
After YouTube blocked the video, another user screenshotted it. “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service,” it says. YouTube restricts mobile ad blockers for some users.
The business told TechCrunch this warning sign is an experiment.
“We’re running a small experiment globally that urges viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium,” it said.
Google also warned that “extreme cases” may prevent YouTube playback if users don’t accept it on the ad blocker.
The corporation has also experimented with premium subscriptions. It tested charging for 4K video streaming last year. For an uninterrupted experience, it tested up to 11 unskippable adverts at the start of the video last September. YouTube reported 80 million Music and Premium members last year.
