Amazon Web Services (AMZN.O) and 11 other foreign technology companies have been added to Roskomnadzor’s expanded list of corporations that must create local offices or face penalties and bans.

In 2021, Russia demanded that 13 firms, mostly U.S. technology companies like Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) Google, Meta Platforms’ (META.O) Facebook, Apple (AAPL.O), and Twitter become officially represented in Russia or face restrictions on advertising, data collection, and money transfers.

Twitter, Facebook, and others were prohibited after Russia invaded Ukraine. YouTube, Wikipedia, Telegram, and Zoom remain operational despite initial threats.

On Thursday, Roskomnadzor’s website added Amazon Web Services and 11 other hosting sites. Amazon and others were unsure what the listing would mean. Amazon did not comment.
