Malaysian authorities said Friday they would sue Facebook parent Meta Platforms (META.O) for failing to remove “undesirable” information.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission stated Facebook had found inappropriate content connected to race, royalty, religion, defamation, impersonation, online gaming, and scam marketing.
It claimed Meta ignored its demands and needed legal action to achieve “accountability for cybersecurity” and “enhancing consumer protection.”

Meta was silent. The commission also delayed legal action. Meta, YouTube, and TikTok are regulated.

Southeast Asian nations request material removal. In 2020, Vietnam threatened to shut down Facebook. In the first quarter of 2018, Vietnamese social media platforms removed 3,200 deceptive and illegal posts and videos.

2019 Facebook terminated hundreds of Indonesian fake news syndicate accounts, pages, and groups.
