Elon Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s CEO. Musk tweeted Yaccarino’s new post this morning, a day after completing his CEO search.
“Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app,” added Musk. NBCU Chairman of Global Advertising & Partnerships Yaccarino announced her resignation on Friday morning.
Since Musk’s leadership has wrecked Twitter’s advertising business, a well-known advertising executive should manage the company. Instead, Musk will remain chairman and “CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.” In addition, Twitter has lost sponsors due to irregular content control and deceptive verification methods. As a result, sales and other revenue-generating teams have been laid off.
Musk seemed to like Yaccarino. Yaccarino interviewed Musk at a Miami advertising conference last month and seemed to like him.
“Elon has committed to being accessible to everyone for continual feedback,” she added onstage. He’s also joined the transparency and safety regulations he posted yesterday. But, remember, free speech does not mean free reach.”
She told Elon, “the people in this room are [Twitter’s] path to profitability.” However, However, Twitter has relied on advertising since its founding, and Musk’s attempts to commercialize the blue check have failed.
Yaccarino sounded eager to sanitize Twitter, asking audience members to voice their concerns to Musk in a Q&A. However, she agreed with Musk that free speech does not equal “freedom of reach” for advertisers.
“If freedom of speech, as he says, is the bedrock of this country, I’m not sure there’s anyone in this room who could disagree with that,” Yaccarino remarked when questioning Musk.
