Snowflake (SNOW.N), a cloud data analytics company, and Nvidia (NVDA.O) are helping finance, healthcare, and retail customers build AI models from their data.
Snowflake Summit 2023 announced the partnership.
“In the old days, small data computing, you moved data to the computer,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told Reuters. “But when you have giant amounts of data like Snowflake does, and the pile of proprietary data…data that’s so valuable to a company, then you move the compute to the data.”
Nvidia’s NeMo platform for training and operating generative AI models on Snowflake Data Cloud is “fairly engineering intensive,” Huang noted.
Chatbot ChatGPT has inspired numerous companies to build AI strategies and helped Nvidia become a trillion-dollar AI hardware company.
“This matters. “This is the last mile we’ve been waiting for 40 years,” said Snowflake Chairman and CEO Frank Slootman. “Every industry’s on this. World-consuming software. “Data is eating software,” he said.
Slootman said Snowflake users may now train new AI models without surrendering control.
Huang said more clients using AI computing would benefit Nvidia.
We sell chips and have Nvidia AI Enterprise. “That operating system lets our chips process AI,” Huang said. Nvidia AI Enterprise costs customers.
