Blizzard Revives Battle.net, Admits It Was A Mistake With Rebranding

Blizzard has made an interesting and exciting choice with the news of their plans to revive their online gaming and digital distribution platform Battle.net. The website is complete with a lineup of online video games and allows players to manage all of their Blizzard Entertainment games and play with other people online, the games include, World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, HearthStone, and of course the extremely popular team shooter Overwatch.

The company has revived the website and attached the word “Blizzard” to it and the platform shall henceforth be known as “Blizzard Battle.net,” the company states that this move should help respect the “shared history” of the platform while also allowing Blizzard to align its corporate marketing and branding under a unified name. Blizzard had this to say in a blog post in regards to the revival of Battle.net, “Battle.net is the central nervous system for Blizzard games and the connective tissue that has brought Blizzard players together since 1996, The technology was never going away, but after giving the branding change further consideration and also hearing your feedback, we’re in agreement that the name should stay as well. Take it from the developer formerly known as Silicon & Synapse, and Chaos Studios, names are important too.”

The company stated that the reason behind the name changing is to help clear up any confusion and help to unite any Blizzard content that has moved beyond gaming and has reached platforms such as Facebook Live, Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms. The company has also stated that there was confusion before that lead people to believe that there were two separate identities under which everything fell under two separate names and this was a way of clearing up the confusion and unifying everything. However, the rebranding seems to be having some problems, the Battle.net name is still appearing on the official marketing material, website, and apps. Fans were even confused when hearing that Battle.net was being revived and Bungie announced that their upcoming game Destiny 2 would be distributed through Battle.net. Despite this Blizzard to pay no mind to their slight bump in the road and intends to continue to move forward with a plan to please all parties involved. Happy gaming!
