New Cinematic Planet Of The Apes Video Game Is In Production

A new Planet of The Apes video game based on Fox’s reboot of the series may be on the rise according to a report from IGN. The game will be known as Planet of The Apes: Last Frontier and will be the first project from a new London gaming company known as Imaginati, and is being published by a production team within the new games division known as Imaginarium.

Imaginarium also happens to be the production house that was founded by Andy Serkis who stars as Caesar in the new Planet of The Apes movies. Serkis has helped produce games such as Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey To The West, he will be executive producer of Planet of The Apes: Last Frontier and all the game’s performances will be recorded using Imaginarium’s “world-class” facilities according to Serkis and IGN. For those who are unfamiliar with the newer Planet of The Apes movies, the story centers around Caesar a genetically modified chimpanzee who was gained increased intelligence on par with that of a human being through the use of the ALZ-112, a drug being tested in the movie that was supposed to repair brain cells in humans.

The drug ended up enhancing Caesar’s intelligence to the point where he could feed himself with a bottle at age 2, he was raised by Will and Caroline Rodman until he was sent to live in captivity (to the chagrin of his adoptive parents). However, Caesar’s new handlers were very abusive with him and the other apes which lead Caesar to overpower one of his abusive handlers and even shout the word “No!” After the two engaged in a scuffle. Caesar later broke into the lab he was born in exposed the apes to an modified version of the same drug his mother was exposed to when she gave birth to him and granted himself and the apes advanced intelligence. The apes later lead a rebellion against humanity and take up residence in a forest, unaware of the deadly virus that would soon plague humanity, thus setting in motion leading up to the events of the two later movies and the war between apes and humans for the planet.

The game will be a choose your own adventure, similar to Telltale’s Walking Dead series, players will be given choices that will lead to different situations in the game and determine the outcome itself. IGN states that the developers have taken out everything but the story scenes meaning that the only input players will have in the game are what they will make their characters say and do. Imaginati states they want to make players make choices every 15-20 seconds and hope that the different branching stories will want to make players got through the story multiple times. Planet of The Apes: The Last Frontier will be set between the events of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and War For The Planet Of The Apes, and will tell the story of a faction of apes that have migrated to the Rocky Mountains to avoid the war between humans and apes, however, a lack of food and resources pushes them back into human territory and are dragged into a conflict of their own. Players will alternate between a human and ape main character that may or may not live depending on the player’s choices within the game. Planet Of The Apes: The Last Frontier is set to release this fall on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Happy gaming!

This game reminds me of The Walking Dead video game as well, but it also reminds me of the Game of Thrones episodic game.
