Apple has introduced the HomePod Mini 2, its second-generation compact smart speaker, with refreshed color options, an upgraded processor and new audio capabilities. Announced at the company’s “Welcome Home” event on October 13, 2026, the speaker is priced at $149, with preorders opening the same day and shipping scheduled to begin October 30.
Five Colors Refresh the Smart Speaker Lineup
Although the HomePod Mini 2 retains a design that closely resembles the original model, Apple has updated its color selection. The new lineup includes pink and green options, a revised shade of blue, and the familiar black and white finishes.
During a demonstration at Apple’s event, the updated colors appeared particularly striking alongside iMac models in matching shades. The coordinated finishes give customers more options for creating a consistent look across their Apple devices and home interiors.
The updated speaker arrives as part of Apple’s broader expansion into connected home products, alongside the new HomeView smart display and a collection of smart home devices.

Upgraded Chip and New Audio Features
The HomePod Mini 2 is powered by Apple’s S10 chip, which is designed to support the company’s Siri AI capabilities. However, Apple says the new artificial intelligence features will become available through a future software update rather than being fully enabled at launch.
Another addition is the Sound Glow feature, which synchronizes the speaker’s LED lighting with the colors of a song’s album artwork. The visual effect adds another layer to the music-listening experience by allowing the speaker’s lighting to reflect what is playing.
Apple has also added the ability to use the HomePod Mini 2 as a Mac’s default speaker. This expands its usefulness beyond standalone smart home audio, allowing Mac users to route their computer’s sound through the compact speaker.
Despite these changes, the device’s overall physical design remains largely unchanged from its predecessor. The updated processor, lighting effects and expanded Mac compatibility provide the main functional differences.

Part of Apple’s Expanding Smart Home Strategy
The HomePod Mini 2 forms part of Apple’s wider effort to strengthen its presence in the smart home market. With refreshed colors and additional capabilities, the company is building on the original speaker’s compact design while preparing the device for more advanced Siri features.
At $149, the new model will be available to preorder from October 13, with deliveries beginning October 30, 2026.
