Beyerdynamic Aventho Y Review: Impressive Noise Cancellation and Battery Life, but Disappointing Sound Quality

Via: Beyerdynamic’s

Beyerdynamic’s new Aventho Y headphones combine stylish design, effective active noise cancellation, and exceptional battery life. However, weak bass and underwhelming audio performance prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Beyerdynamic is making a fresh push into the affordable wireless headphone market with the Aventho Y, a pair of over-ear headphones designed for listeners who want comfort, style, and dependable performance on the move.

Released on September 3, 2026, the headphones are priced at $149.99 in the US, £129 in the UK, and AU$280 in Australia. They offer several attractive features, including active noise cancellation (ANC), Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint connectivity, and a battery rated for more than 90 hours of listening without ANC.

Despite these strengths, the Aventho Y have one significant weakness: their sound quality. Although they perform better in noisy environments, their default audio profile lacks the bass, depth, and dynamics expected from a brand with Beyerdynamic’s reputation.

A Feature-Rich Pair of Headphones

The Aventho Y are equipped with 45mm dynamic drivers and support both wireless and wired listening. Their Bluetooth connection supports SBC and AAC audio codecs, although the absence of higher-quality options such as aptX or LDAC may disappoint listeners seeking advanced wireless audio performance.

Battery life is one of the headphones’ biggest selling points. Beyerdynamic claims more than 90 hours of playback with ANC switched off and over 60 hours with noise cancellation enabled. A quick five-minute charge can reportedly provide up to six hours of listening.

Other features include physical playback controls, a built-in microphone for calls, USB-C charging and wired audio, and a 3.5mm connection for an optional boom microphone. The headphones also connect to Beyerdynamic’s smartphone app, where users can adjust noise cancellation and customize the sound through an equalizer.

The company is also developing an optional USB-C dongle intended to provide low-latency connectivity, alongside an add-on boom microphone. Availability details for these accessories have not yet been fully established.

Noise Cancellation That Makes a Difference

Noise cancellation is arguably the Aventho Y’s strongest feature. The headphones effectively reduce surrounding sounds, making them particularly useful for commuting, traveling, and navigating busy public spaces.

Their Transparency mode also allows outside sounds to filter through, helping users remain aware of their surroundings when necessary. While the reviewer noticed some background hiss with both modes, their overall effectiveness was impressive for headphones in this price category.

The Aventho Y appear particularly well suited to outdoor listening. Traffic, conversations, and other environmental noises can mask some of their audio weaknesses, allowing music to sound more engaging than it does in a quiet room.

However, listeners who prefer sitting down in a peaceful environment to appreciate the finer details of their favorite recordings may find the experience less satisfying.

Sound Quality Remains the Biggest Disappointment

Despite their impressive features, the Aventho Y struggle to deliver balanced audio straight out of the box.

The reviewer found the midrange frequencies, particularly vocals and upper mids, overly prominent. Meanwhile, the bass lacked the depth and impact needed to give music a convincing sense of weight. Instrument separation and dynamics also suffered during quieter listening sessions.

Tracks that should sound energetic and full-bodied instead came across as thin, with prominent vocals and guitars overshadowing lower-frequency instruments.

The headphones perform more convincingly outdoors, where their forward sound profile helps music cut through background noise. Nevertheless, their bass response remains disappointing even in these conditions.

Users can improve the experience through the Beyerdynamic app’s graphic equalizer. Adjusting frequencies between 60Hz and 200Hz helped restore some of the missing low-end presence during testing.

Still, the need for manual adjustments is a drawback, particularly for buyers who expect satisfying sound quality without spending time fine-tuning settings.

For serious music enthusiasts, home listening, or high-resolution audio playback, the Aventho Y are difficult to recommend on sound quality alone.

Stylish Design, Comfortable Fit, and Repair-Friendly Construction

Where the Aventho Y regain ground is their physical design.

The headphones feature a clean, contemporary appearance and come in four color options. Their pastel-inspired finishes give them a more youthful look than the restrained aesthetic often associated with Beyerdynamic’s professional audio products.

Although some components are made from plastic, the overall design is attractive and feels appropriate for the price.

Comfort is another highlight. The lightweight-feeling ear cushions and foldable construction make the headphones suitable for extended listening sessions. Physical buttons provide straightforward control, while the folding design makes them convenient to wear around the neck or carry between destinations.

More importantly, Beyerdynamic has paid attention to repairability. The ear pads attach magnetically and can be removed without complicated disassembly. Behind the left ear pad is a replaceable battery, allowing owners to extend the headphones’ useful lifespan when the original battery eventually deteriorates.

This approach is a welcome feature in a market where many consumer electronics products are difficult to repair. Optional velour ear pads are also available for users seeking a different feel.

Are the Beyerdynamic Aventho Y Worth the Price?

At $149.99, the Aventho Y offer an appealing combination of features for people who spend considerable time outdoors.

Their exceptionally long battery life, effective ANC, attractive styling, comfortable fit, and replaceable battery make them a practical choice for daily commuting. Their performance is especially compelling for buyers who prioritize convenience and noise reduction over critical listening.

However, the sound quality prevents them from being an all-around recommendation. The weak bass and overly prominent upper mids make them less suitable for listeners who want an immersive, balanced sound experience without adjusting the equalizer.

The headphones receive the following scores in the original review:

  • Features: 4/5
  • Sound quality: 3/5
  • Design: 4.5/5
  • Value: 4/5

Final Verdict

The Beyerdynamic Aventho Y are an appealing set of wireless headphones with excellent noise cancellation, remarkable battery endurance, and a design that combines comfort with practical repairability.

Their limitations become apparent when the focus shifts to sound quality. Although equalizer adjustments help, the default audio performance falls short of expectations, particularly for listeners who value deep bass, dynamic range, and a balanced presentation.

For commuters and frequent travelers seeking long battery life and effective noise cancellation at a reasonable price, the Aventho Y are worth considering. For music lovers who prioritize sound above everything else, however, there are stronger options to explore.

Bottom line: The Aventho Y excel at making everyday listening more convenient, but their disappointing audio performance keeps them from becoming the complete wireless headphone package.
