Google will close Dropcam and Nest Secure in 2024.


Google will stop supporting Dropcam and Nest Secure on April 8, 2024. These are one of the few Nest items that haven’t been ported over to Google Home, and their death suggests the new Google Home app may be close. Within a year. Surely.

Google is also closing the final Works with Nest connections on September 29.

After April 8, 2024, the Nest app will no longer operate with Dropcam cameras. Dropcam owners who subscribe to Nest Aware get a free indoor wired Nest Cam. Nonsubscribers receive a 50% discount. You can use your Dropcam until May 7, 2024.

The 2012 Dropcam HD and 2013 Dropcam Pro were released. Google acquired Nest, which acquired Dropcam. When Google founded Alphabet in 2015, Nest and Google made smart home goods. In 2018, Google reabsorbed Nest, and it’s been a headache attempting to merge Nest gadgets into the Google Home app and dying off those that can’t.
