Instagram developed “collections” in 2017 to arrange saved posts into private groups for quicker access. In addition, Instagram now allows friends to create collections.

In an email to TechCrunch, the social network announced “collaborative collections,” a means for pals to contribute content in a group conversation or DM. Hence, you may now share and save content with friends.

Instagram’s new tool might compete with Pinterest’s “Group boards” function, which has let users interact since 2018.

On Wednesday, Instagram president Adam Mosseri announced on the IG Updates Channel that users might create collaborative collections when saving material from Feeds or DMs. “Then you may name the collection and share it with others. Then, after receiving it, your friends may contribute reels, Explore, Feed, and DM items to the collection.

Chat members can add or remove posts. In addition, chatters can add directly to a collaborative collection. Tap the bookmark symbol next to a conversation post to add it to a collaborative collection or create one.

Collaboration collections are useful and accepted on the site. For example, the tool might enable a group of friends to plan a trip by saving posts of locations they want to visit or things they want to experience. In addition, combined collections may be used daily to curate a location where you and your friends can exchange memes, baking recipes, fitness advice, creative ideas, and more.

The new function comes after Instagram launched a new way for users to interact. Instagram launched “Channels” broadcast chat last month. Creators can send public, one-to-many communications to their followers. Channels support text, photos, polls, responses, and more.

The social network started testing a new feature this month that enables users rapidly access their recently shared reels to make it simpler to reshare a reel they liked to a friend later.
