On Monday, Italy allocated 30 million euros ($33 million) to train unemployed people and workers most in danger from automation and AI.

54% of Italians aged 16-74 lack fundamental digital abilities, compared to 46% in the EU, according to the Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale (FRD), established in 2021 by the Rome administration, to improve digital skills.

FRD said training improvement funding would be split two ways. First, ten million euros will be used to train workers at risk of being displaced by automation and technology.

FRD stated the remaining 20 million euros would help unemployed and economically inactive persons learn digital skills to boost their career prospects.

FRD warned that automation might threaten transportation, logistics, office support, production, services, and retail jobs.

Lawmakers and authorities in numerous countries are watching the rapid development of AI and automation solutions like ChatGPT.

Due to its potential impact on national security, education, and jobs, many experts argue AI needs additional restrictions. OpenAI addressed Italy’s data protection authority’s concerns in late April, restoring ChatGPT to Italy after four weeks.
