Far Cry 5 will be released on Feb. 27 of next year, according to the official Far Cry 5 announcement trailer.

The trailer shows off what gamers can expect from the newest installment of the Far Cry franchise created by Ubisoft Montreal, where a sheriff deputy officer controlled by the player tries to stop a cult from completely taking over Hope County, Montana. This is the first game of the Far Cry main storyline to take place in America, while the others explored destinations like Micronesia, Africa, the Pacific, and the Himalayas.

“The idea of going to a frontier in the States and bringing you to a place you kind of know already and just the concept of the thing that’s in your backyard could be even more exotic than going a thousand miles away,” said Far Cry 5‘s Executive Producer and Creative Director Dan Shay in an interview with Ubisoft.

One feature of Far Cry 5 is, like other Far Cry games, the player takes complete control of their character. Players can explore the terrain of Hope County and are left to do what they want, when they want in an open world setting, according to Far Cry 5‘s official website. There is also a variety of weapons and vehicles available for the player’s disposal. Some of the weapons include an American flag painted baseball bat, dynamite, and (of course) a shotgun, while the players can choose from vehicles such as a tractor trailer or one of the cult’s trucks, with its unique cross branding on the doors.

Also, as players fight with the resistance against the enemy, a cult named The Project at Eden’s Gate, they are able to change their strategy to hit back harder using an AI system that tracks the player’s movements. The player isn’t fighting alone though, as there is an arsenal of characters the player can befriend to join the resistance. This includes a pastor, a young girl whose family legacy was destroyed by the cult, and a gun for hire. The game has a single player mode and a co-op mode, allowing for the player and a friend to fight against the cult together, also according to the Far Cry 5 official website.

“When I think of Far Cry, I think about the idea of kind of sitting at a bar, having a scotch, and somebody comes up behind me and starts to talk about an urban legend that happened kind of to them,” said Shay in the interview mentioned earlier, “and they’re telling the story of survival in a frontier, and it’s twisted; it’s unique, and that’s what makes a Far Cry story.”

What makes this game different from previous Far Cry games is that there is character customization, according to VideoGamer.com. In previous Far Cry games, the player would take control of a character whose story is already laid out. In Far Cry 5, aside from just being able to change the appearance of the character, players will also be able to choose their sex and ethnicity.

The popularity of the Far Cry series has shown to be increasing after 7 million copies of Far Cry 4 were sold back in February of 2015, according to PCGamesN.com. It’s predecessor, Far Cry 3, sold 4.5 million copies just two years earlier. The latest spin-off Far Cry game, Far Cry Primal, became the number one game in both the United Kingdom and the United States in February 2016, according to GameSpot.

The reveal of Far Cry 5‘s release date comes ahead of Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference on June 12. It is assumed that more details Far Cry 5 will be discussed at the conference.
