The World Humanoid Robot Games started on Thursday in Beijing, with human-shaped robots from 16 countries, including Japan. The Beijing city government is hosting the event to help advance humanoid robot technology.

Robots took part in the opening ceremony. A robot from a Beijing company said it hopes to compete in the future using science and technology. In events like soccer, robots sometimes collided and fell on the field, which made for some funny moments.

The main competitions begin on Friday, with over 500 robots taking part in 26 events, including track and field, dancing, and martial arts. China aims to make its humanoid robotics world-class by 2027.
