Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, combining Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon processors with dual 200MP cameras, large batteries and a secondary display on the back.
The two phones launched in China on September 23, with the Pro Max positioned as the more powerful model. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the 18 Pro series will receive a global release later this year, although international pricing and availability have not yet been detailed.
Rather than focusing on processing power alone, Xiaomi has packed the new devices with several unusual features. Both models include a rear-facing display, hardware-level privacy technology and Leica-branded camera systems, while the Pro Max pushes battery capacity to 8,500mAh.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max: The bigger flagship
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a 2,624 × 1,208 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits. A second 2.9-inch AMOLED screen sits on the rear of the phone, offering a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 4,000 nits brightness.
Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process and capable of reaching 5GHz. Xiaomi has paired the processor with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
The phone’s battery is one of its biggest talking points. The 18 Pro Max carries an 8,500mAh battery, with support for 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 27W reverse wireless charging.
Dual 200MP cameras
The camera system is equally ambitious. The Pro Max features a 200MP main camera alongside a 200MP periscope telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. Both 200MP cameras are part of Xiaomi’s Leica-branded imaging system.
Xiaomi has also introduced new AI-powered imaging features, including its Legendary Moment mode, which uses on-device and cloud-based processing to create different photographic looks.
The rear screen also has a practical photography function. It allows users to use the more capable rear camera system for selfies while viewing the framing on the secondary display. Xiaomi has expanded the rear-screen software with app cards and other functions rather than treating it simply as a decorative feature.
Xiaomi 18 Pro takes a smaller approach
The standard Xiaomi 18 Pro retains many of the same flagship features in a smaller body.
It has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a 2,436 × 1,120 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, while its rear display measures 2.7 inches. Like the Pro Max, the main screen can reach a claimed peak brightness of 4,000 nits.
The smaller model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 rather than the Extreme version found in the Pro Max. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
Its battery is also smaller, but still substantial for a flagship of this size: 7,000mAh, with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The camera setup remains close to the Pro Max, with a 200MP main sensor, 200MP periscope telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide camera. The Pro Max does use a more advanced version of Xiaomi’s main sensor, giving it an additional advantage in demanding imaging conditions.
Privacy display comes to both models
One of Xiaomi’s more notable additions is its hardware-level privacy display technology.
The feature is designed to narrow the viewing angle when privacy mode is activated, making information on the screen harder for people nearby to see. Xiaomi has also integrated software features that can automatically activate privacy protection in certain situations, including when the front camera detects another person looking at the display.
The inclusion of the feature on both the standard Pro and Pro Max models means Xiaomi is not restricting the technology to its largest flagship.
How much do they cost?
In China, the Xiaomi 18 Pro starts at 5,999 yuan for the 12GB/256GB configuration. The Pro Max starts at 6,999 yuan for the same memory and storage combination. Higher configurations reach 8,999 yuan for the 18 Pro and 9,999 yuan for the 18 Pro Max.
The Chinese pricing translates to roughly $839 for the Pro and $979 for the Pro Max at current quoted conversions, although those figures should not be treated as expected international retail prices.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the 18 Pro series is going global later in 2026. The company has not yet provided complete international pricing or confirmed every market that will receive the phones.
Pro or Pro Max?
The choice between the two largely comes down to size and priorities.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro offers most of the series’ major features in a smaller package, including the rear display, dual 200MP camera system, privacy display and a 7,000mAh battery.
The 18 Pro Max adds the larger 6.9-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor and 8,500mAh battery. It is also the model aimed at users who want the highest specifications Xiaomi is offering in the series.
Both phones represent a broader shift in flagship smartphone design. Instead of competing only through faster processors or higher-resolution displays, Xiaomi is combining large batteries, advanced cameras, secondary screens, privacy technology and AI features into a single flagship package.
With the global launch still ahead, the next question will be how Xiaomi prices and configures these devices outside China—and whether their unusually large batteries and extensive feature sets make the transition from impressive specifications on paper to meaningful advantages in everyday use.
