Apple’s latest iOS 27.2 update introduces a new age-verification feature that allows adult users to confirm their age using a selfie, potentially eliminating the need to provide a credit card or government-issued identification.
The feature is designed to help Apple and third-party developers meet increasingly strict child-safety and age-verification regulations in different markets, particularly the United Kingdom and Australia, where authorities have been strengthening restrictions on access to online services by minors.

While the selfie-based process is intended to make age verification more convenient, it also raises questions about the handling of sensitive biometric information.
Apple says the verification process estimates a user’s age using technology that operates on the iPhone and its Secure Cloud Compute servers. According to the company’s official support information, the selfie is not made accessible to Apple or other parties and is deleted once the age estimate has been completed.
Beyond the new biometric feature, iOS 27.2 introduces several improvements to Apple’s artificial intelligence and device ecosystem, including expanded Siri language support and additional hardware compatibility.
What’s New in iOS 27.2?
One of the update’s other notable additions is expanded cross-app intelligence. On supported iPhones, users can receive suggestions for calendar events, reminders, notes and photo searches directly within conversations.
The feature is designed to make interactions more useful by connecting relevant information across applications. However, users must grant permission before activating it.
Siri is also gaining support for additional languages, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese. Although Google Gemini currently supports a wider range of languages, the additions represent another step in Apple’s efforts to expand its AI assistant’s capabilities.
The update also introduces support for wired and wireless Apple Pencil connectivity on the iPhone Duo, extending the device’s hardware functionality.
Apple’s iOS 27 release introduced a major interface redesign alongside deeper Apple Intelligence integration. The new 27.2 update builds on those changes with additional features aimed at improving the overall experience.
According to the report, iOS 27.2 is compatible with the iPhone 11 and newer models, following the same hardware compatibility list as iOS 26.
With age verification, expanded AI capabilities and broader language support, the update reflects Apple’s continued effort to develop its software ecosystem while responding to growing regulatory demands around online safety and privacy.
