Roku now offers Disney+ Basic, an ad-supported tier. Several Roku customers were astonished to see the ad-supported plan unavailable four months ago.

Disney informed TechCrunch that it was still negotiating a deal with Roku. However, as channels must divide ad income with Roku, we believed the issue was about an ad-share arrangement.

Four months later, all Roku users may use the ad-supported plan. Disney+ Basic (With Advertising) costs $7.99 monthly, while Premium (With Ads) costs $10.99.

Disney+ Basic streams Full HD, HDR10, 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, and Extended Aspect Ratio with IMAX Improved. It also allows streaming on four compatible devices. The ad plan covers all Disney+ content. Tier ads last 15–30–45 seconds. Disney+ limits ads to four minutes every hour—ad-free preschool material.

The plan does not enable offline viewing or downloading. In addition, isney+ Basic excludes GroupWatch, SharePlay, and Dolby Atmos. Disney told TechCrunch in December that it hopes to enable this, although the timetable is uncertain.

Disney+ supports streaming Disney+ Basic on Roku after updating the app.
